Eating healthy with the RXYM XRMY

Eating healthy is something you personally choose to do.  Some riders think their eating habits don't hurt their riding.. WRONG!

Let's go over the basics here without getting too tech:

1) Eat a breakfast!

Eat something.  RXYM's Ray Machado claims by Blueberry Morning cereal and egg, tomato, cheese bagels while RXYM's Matt Byzak eats plain bagels.  Whatever it is, get it in you at least 30 minutes after waking up and always drink a big glass of water in the morning and some juice.  Studies have shown that simply drinking water in the morning energizes your brain and actually helps you stay cut.  Get ripped, not buff.

2) Eat small meals often throughout the day!

Who really does this?  This is the hard part especially if the waves are pumping or you are working a job with weird hours and don't eat on a schedule.  RXYM's Jeremy Wright is the master of this by actually packing meals with him made the night before.  "I plan my meals because basically I'm on a budget.  Just try to mix it up with fruits and veggies if you are surfing a lot and drink water not soda!" recalls Wright.   Try snacking on dried fruit, beef jerky, natural granola, half a sandwich, almonds, oranges, apples, and granola bars.  A fat meal will make you bog in the water or have you throwing it up 5 minutes into your shred session.  Either one sucks.

3) Reduce, but don't eliminate certain foods!

So you love cookies and greasy burritos, that's cool.  We do too.  Just don't eat the whole tray at night and wonder why you have the squirts in the morning before you paddle out.  Candy, soda, juice with high sugar doses, fried foods, or anything with high sugar/fats/salt = NO BUENO!  Try to eat clean and if you have a sweet tooth, eat it in smaller portions.. it's your body.

4) Dinner.. eat up brotha!

Say you have a contest the next day or are on a boat trip and you've been surfing all day.. you need some fuel full of low fat and carbs to energize you for the next day.  Dinner time is a good time to chow down, just don't eat full narly meals after 10pm.  Get your hands on some lemon or bar b qued chicken (easier to process than red beef), fish, pasta, rice, salad, potatoes, steamed veggies, fruits, and some whole wheat or oat bread.  Again, drink water.. it's sooooo good for you!  Trust us.  Water, Water, Water.. keeps your mind and arteries clean!

Eating healthy is easy.  You don't have to be a hippie or a guru soul surfer.  Just be yourself and watch what you put in your body.  All that junk food will catch up to you sometime, maybe not tomorrow, but we warned you.  Eat with good habits now and it'll keep you healthy for the long hull.

Get in the water, it's summer!
