INTERVIEW
RXYM Fashion:

Welcome to the RXYM XRMY Mr. Wright. How amped are you on this clothing deal?

Jeremy:

Sooo stoked! I am excited to be working with my friends and help RXYM blow up! Amped on the signing bonus too!

RXYM Fashion:

You are an extremely busy and focused individual. Break down a day in the life of Jeremy Wright?

Jeremy:

Every day is different especially when your on the road and when the swell is good. But a typical california day with fun waves would be to wake up around 5am get some time in the Word and pray. Then I stretch and workout for an hour. Eat breakfast with my wonderful parents and talk with them about what I want to do that day and my goals. Pack a lunch or snack. Get in the water by 7:30am and surf for 3-5 hours. Go home and reply to all PR stuff, I only give myself 45min. Eat lunch and watch a bodyboard video. Do whatever my parents asked me to do around the house and then it's Homework and study time for 3 hours. Another 45 min on the web check the waves or call friends and if its still fun race down there and be in the water by 4 or 5 and surf till dark, if its not good then play some tennis, golf, swim anything active. Get home around 8pm. My mom cooks really good, there is usually a great meal all ready to be devoured and its family time, we just cruise and talk with each other about our days and everything. There is usually people over to. Then its like 9pm so I watch like 3 Hubb segments. I love reading and writing I have the best lazy boy chair to read in. While I write and plan for the next day I stretch. Then sleep and do it all over again the next day!

RXYM Fashion:

You took a massive airdrop in your last heat at PIPE this year that rocked you pretty good. You shook it off and even joked that, "GOD has a funny sense of humor." Tell us about your relationship with GOD and how that plays into your mental preparation for surfing waves like PIPE and Chopes?

Jeremy:

Jesus is #1 in my life for sure. Its a daily thing and I am not perfect at all but I try and be more like Him every day. I don't force what I believe on other people. If they want to know my testimony or why I am so amped on Jesus than I am more than happy to share my faith. There is a cool thing I read every day from FCA it says; I give my all-all of the time. I do not give up. I do not give in. I do not give out. I am the Lord's warrior-a competitor by conviction and a disciple of determination. I am confident beyond reason because my confidence lies in Christ. The results of my efforts must result in His glory. Let the competition begin. Let the glory be Gods. That right there gives me goosebumps and motivates me big time!

RXYM Fashion:

Who pushes you in your riding and who do you love to surf with. Has 6X World Champion Guilherme Tamega given you any tips as a teammate on Wave Rebel Bodyboards?

Jeremy:

Every one that I bodyboard pushes and encourages me, its epic! All the videos coming out just make you want to get in the water and train. I want the waves they are riding so bad. When I am home I like to bodyboard and train with my friend Bryan Washburn the most cause he's sick! He is also the most gifted athlete I have ever met. Give him any sport and he will wind up blowing you mind! Tamega helps me out and is the man! He is a true athlete by the way he eats, trains and acts. He is a nut case in crazy waves and hits sections where people just want to make it out alive. He is filled with so much knowledge. The nicest guy for sure with an awesome family. He is a great person to look up to in bodyboarding. He is the main reason I signed with WR, I love hanging out with him and just soaking it all in. He inspires you to not be lazy and to progress always I mean he is ranked #1 right now and going for his 7th world title. His competitive success is amazing and he has been living the dream for so long. Getting payed to bodyboard traveling on to the coolest places and scoring epic waves on someone else's dime, man thats a dream! I can't wait for our trips coming up!

RXYM Fashion:

You are one of the first professional riders to have a legitimate Sports Manager representing you. How did this relationship come about and would you advise other riders to seek the same professionalism?

Jeremy:

First off I want to thank Russ for everything he has helped me with! He is big time in the music industry and runs Music Saves Lives along with soo much other stuff. The story is I won the CCSA tour and just got home from a trip from Panama with my mentor Giovanni Greco. My high school and local newspaper wrote a really cool article on me and liked how I set goals for myself at a young age and had a 4.0 GPA. He liked the story and came out to one of my contest to meet me and I wounded up winning. We got a long really well and he believed in me. My parents liked him and its been awesome every since. He deals with all my contracts and gets me into so many PR events like giving out a music awards, radio interviews, going to schools and librarys to speak, sign posters for kids and companies, and just make connections. He teaches me so much and is just one of the coolest guys for sure!!!

RXYM Fashion:

You rock Zinka, which was pretty much the coolest sunscreen company back in the 80's. Tell us about that product nowadays and is neon pink better than neon blue? Do they make organic stuff for all the hippie surfers out there?

Jeremy:

The product is great! No organic stuff yet but they just came out with a spray! One of my friends just met his girlfriend because of it haha we were at the beach and he was gonna film but the waves werent the greatest so he got over it. It was the nicest day and he knew I had the new Zinka spray in my bag so he grabbed it and went up to this group of girls who were laying out and asked if they needed some sunscreen, and it worked! They also make lip balm which is the best stuff!

RXYM Fashion:

You are such a positive guy. Personally, we know that you have good days and bad days just like everyone else.. but how do you maintain your positive outlook on a daily basis?

Jeremy:

Honestly I am not happy 100% of the time, im human but generally speaking my true joy comes from my relationship with the Lord and His promises. I try and memorize certain verses, that helps out the most! Like when I lose a heat, blow it, or I get bad news I try to remember what my mom always tells me and it is found in Jeremiah 29:11; "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." I also love reading quotes, they are short and sweet and help out a lot.

RXYM Fashion:

Being from California and a big part of the new generation of riders, talk about your peers and who stands out. How do you think CA riders can achieve a higher level of respect from International riders and fans?

Jeremy:

There are so many guys my age that rip but just don't do contest. I can seriously write so many names but the ones that come to mind first are the ones I got to hang out with in hawaii this year. Like Matty Meyer, Beans, and Mike Lepiere. It's cool cause we all surfed so much! I even get to surf with them when I am home, like with Beans at Wedge, Matty in Ventura, and Mike in San Diego. They all have such amazing talent and are going for it, there not letting little things stand in there way either which is cool. They are doing the most with what they got and I like that. Guys like Rusty Friesen, Tyler Wieman, Joe Grodzen, Brian Wise and James Murdock have helped the Cali guys the most in the international field in my opinion by doing so well in Hawaii, getting shots in the mags and even covers because they CHARGE! They are all so sick on the boog! But man there are still soo many guys to name, I don't think I did this question justice.

RXYM Fashion:

What are a few of your top goals this year? How do you develop your goals and set out to achieve them?

Jeremy:

I have sooo many goals and I break them up in four categories; Spiritually, Financially, Phyisically and Mentally. You can do it any way you want to. I just read a book on Tony Dungy and that's how he did his and I respect that man a lot. One goal from each category. Spiritually- To keep my relationship with the Lord first in my life, Financially- Invest $2,000 in a roth IRA account, Physically(this has the most cause its all under bodyboarding)- Win a USBA event, Mentally- Pass all my classes at the Universtiy of Phoenix online classes with a B or better. Here is a cool quote; "Effective goals are specific, moderately difficult, but not impossible"-Paul Egan
